Integrity and responsibility are the core values of our business. Reflecting this, we adopted strong ESG principles from the beginning.
Our responsibilities to the environment and to our communities are central to our strategy, and to the design and the management of our buildings.
Our strategy includes a series of guiding ESG principles that govern our decision making and assist us in tracking performance. Our Sustainability Stairways, Targets and Guidelines policies set the foundations from which all our, our partners’, and our customers’ performance can be measured and managed.
Experience has shown us that leading by example and setting ambitious sustainability standards means our buildings and spaces attract and retain customers more easily and achieve better returns.
Our commitment to sustainability is demonstrated by projects such as The Parcels Building. Here, we maximised the opportunities presented by retrofitting the existing building and the site, minimising the embodied carbon impact of the project, whilst pursuing high-quality design and architecture. We adapted the brief throughout the project’s 5-year duration to push improvements in environmental performance as far as possible, targeting ambitious sustainability goals.
"The retrofit works undertaken have extended the buildings’ useful life with a lower impact in terms of embodied carbon compared to a redevelopment approach."
"Post-retrofit, the building boasts substantially improved energy performance, attractiveness and longevity."
As described in London Property’s Alliance’s research paper, ‘Retrofit first, Not Retrofit Only’

With the built environment responsible for approximately 40% of carbon emissions globally, our sector has a critical role to play in the World’s journey to net zero. Tackling climate change is not just about reducing our energy and water usage and cutting waste. It’s about looking across the whole lifecycle of our buildings to ensure they are up to standard, as well as future-proofing our assets for the risks that climate change presents.
We take a long-term view, identifying opportunities to improve our assets and mitigate climate risks for our business and people - not just now, but for the future. We seek to make a difference, and to play our part.
We understand the importance of monitoring and assessing the operational performance of our buildings and using data to identify potential future improvements. The ability to evaluate performance and capture the environmental impact of the improvements we implement is key to our ethos as a business. To reduce the operational impact of projects in the current pipeline, we are reducing energy demand, investing in low or zero carbon energy sources and offsetting those residual emissions we cannot eliminate, as well as taking steps to minimise embodied carbon in our designs. Through customer engagement, we aim to bring others on the journey with us to meet shared goals.
We realise that we will achieve a more sustainable future by working in collaboration with other organisations.
We’re proud to be members of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), a network of more than 700 members across the industry who are working to transform the sustainability of the built environment.
We have also signed the Westminster Property Association and Westminster City Council’s Sustainable City Charter, and will work alongside other signatories to reduce carbon emissions from non-domestic buildings in the City of Westminster.
We have developed a set of Green Build Guidelines to help us articulate the standards we aim for in the design and delivery of all works, from minor refurbishments and fit-outs to major refurbishments and new developments.
